Experience More than 35+ Years

Karl Byrne

I am a senior social care leader with over 35 years’ experience in children’s residential services across Ireland and the UK, with a strong track record in service development, registration, governance, and trauma-responsive care.

I am currently Service Director with Meas Mór Limited, where I led the successful opening of our first registered children’s residential home for young people aged 0–12. We are now progressing the development of a second home, continuing to grow in a planned and values-led way that prioritises quality, stability, and consistency of care.

My leadership approach is clear, purposeful, backed up by a Masters in Social Care Leadership and Management and the belief that high quality care depends on well led, well supported teams. I place strong emphasis on reflective supervision, professional development, and creating environments where Social Care Workers and Managers are trusted, listened to, and supported to deliver their best work.

At Meas Mór, we are building services that are safe and nurturing for children and professionally rewarding places to work. I welcome connections with social care professionals who are committed to trauma-informed, relationship-based practice and who want to be part of a service with clear direction, strong values, and high standards. Gerard has a strong passion for employee wellbeing, training and safeguarding. He recently completed a Diploma in HR Management, to further strengthen his understanding of people management and valued-led workplaces. Gerard brings a calm, empathetic, and people-centred approach to his work, with a strong focus on employee relations.

He was appointed Peace Commissioner (2015) by the Minister for Justice and Equality, reflecting his commitment to public service.
